All Advice in Architecture by Leewardists
A super new, all new, brand new advice column by Leewardists!
Hello and welcome to The Leeward Newsletter. We write to you on a random Saturday (let’s make this a weekend) and if you haven’t subscribed to us yet, let us help you with that,
We know we are late, we apologize, you know we are like that, blah blah…let’s move on!
The important thing is that we are back, with AN IMPORTANT THING!
And that is, an advice column!!! About Architecture!!! Why has no one thought about that? Or has someone? Well, if someone has, then bless that soul because if there is a species that needs more solicited advice than anyone else, it's an architect or an aspiring architecture student or a design student or, well… someone in that realm.
BUT WHYY?? WHY AN ADVICE COLUMN?
Good question. It is because we have crossed that bridge. And, we know what it is like to be on the other side, the side where nothing seems right, where an unfinished design is more heartbreaking than a heartbreak, where the world of redos and unpaid internship pierces through the heart and ends up in the brain, where staying in a job seems more right than starting your own but all you need is a push and we just wish that someone had given us true, real but comforting advice. Well, even uncomfortable ones would have worked, but honestly, advice when asked for, can do great things. It is a perspective that you never saw or even if you did, you never believed in it. And that, from someone else is like light at the end of a tunnel or a path from middle of a forest or a glass of water in middle of a dessert or,,,you get it!
And, not to brag but people (read: you, thy audience), friends and family have told us several times that we are good advice givers.
We shied away from that but over time we have started to believe that too, even though it is quite difficult to do so when one only believes in self-deprecating humor (ugh, classic millennials). And if we think about it, in a way, we have been doing that with our comics, no? This column is like an extension of that.
And, we think that most of us have similar, overriding questions, even though all of them are unique in their way. But if you have a question, the chances are someone else might have a similar question. So if we answer one, chances are, we answer for a lot of them. Isn’t that a beautiful thing to do, to share? (our overlapping anxieties)?
AND, it is so terribly tiring and impossible to do those AMA’s on Instagram. Or, answer all the pending DMs, even though we desperately want to.
And last but not least, it is a great way to reach out to you, 250k+ of you and make friends in this process because if it is not friends who give you advice, who else does? :)
So, because of the aforementioned reasons, we have (not randomly, but very carefully) decided to start this column. With a proper system and all, so you know it is not a farce.
Yes, we may take breaks in between but for now, we plan to be consistent.
The process is simple, you fill the form mentioned below -
You ask your question you need us to give advice for. It is optional for you to reveal your name and other details.
We choose 2 questions every week and get back with our advice on the newsletter.
You can then follow up with us if the advice worked for you or not.
If you want to go in-depth and do a deep dive about your problems and woes, we will soon start a subscription model where we will do a 1-hour one-on-one sesh with you and follow up via q and a threads only visible to paid subscribers.
Well, that was it. An Advice Column. A new beginning. A new way to connect with all of you.
See you with more comics!
Cheers!
